Project Background
This large high-end refurbishment in Kent required 345m2 of flooring and 106m2 of bathroom walls and alcoves in Forcrete ‘Feather 1’. Forcrete is the industry leading supplier of microcement and their micro quartz system offers the USP of being fully waterproof, even before the application of sealers, so perfect for bathrooms and wet rooms, as well as floors.
The Project
We’re excited to share details of our latest project: a high-end refurbishment in Kent featuring 345m² of microcement flooring and 106m² of bathroom walls and alcoves. This ambitious project used Forcrete ‘Feather 1’, a microcement system known for its durability, aesthetic appeal, and fully waterproof properties—perfect for wet rooms, bathrooms, and seamless floor surfaces.

The Prep and Process
Installing microcement is a meticulous process that requires careful attention to detail, taking at least 6 days to complete, regardless of project size. Here’s how we achieved a flawless finish for this project:
Day 1 – Surface Preparation:
We began by grinding, vacuuming, and priming the existing slab. Grinding flattens the surface, ensuring an optimal finish for the thin microcement overlay. Vacuuming removes potential contaminants that could impact the bond, while priming guarantees a strong connection between the slab and the microcement system.
Day 2 – Mesh and Epoxy Scratch Coat:
We applied mesh to the primed area, followed by an epoxy scratch coat—a blend of epoxy resin and fine quartz. This step fills in the mesh to provide additional strength to the base layer.
Day 3 – Second Epoxy Scratch Coat:
We applied a second scratch coat to further strengthen the surface and ensure that the mesh was fully covered and would not show through the first microcement layer.
Day 4 – First Microcement Layer:
We applied the first layer of Forcrete microcement, beginning to create the subtle movement and tone that defines the final look.
Day 5 – Second Microcement Layer:
We applied the second and final layer of Forcrete microcement. This layer was expertly trowelled to achieve a seamless, bespoke finish with subtle tonal variations.
Day 6 – PU Sealer Coat:
We applied a PU (polyurethane) sealer coat for additional protection and durability. This sealing process enhances the finish and ensures long-lasting performance.
Due to the complexity and size of this project, our team of four experienced installers worked over 15 working days to achieve a seamless, high-quality result. The level of detailing on the bathroom walls, alcoves, and niches showcases our commitment to delivering flawless workmanship.
Application of Stonex Resin Bound:
We then installed 260m² of Stonex Resin Bound using Vuba stone and binder. The Sherwood Forest colour blend was chosen for its natural, earthy tones that complement the surrounding environment. The resin-bound surface was expertly trowelled to achieve a smooth, even finish.

The result is a stunning, seamless microcement finish that offers a sleek, minimal aesthetic with a smooth feel underfoot. The client is delighted with the final installation, which perfectly complements the modern design of the home.
